As some of you may know, I've had the pleasure of working with young people and music for a good while and am very passionate about the value of music in our lives today. I have seen first hand the amazing experiences and opportunities created by enabling young people to learn and make music. Music is such an incredible tool for uniting people, releasing emotions and creativity, building confidence, inspiring others and so much more.
Now is the perfect opportunity for me to contribute more to what I believe so greatly in. I'm making a double release of two of my tracks, 'Heartbeat' and 'Dreams' with the hope that I can raise funds to buy instruments for young people who might not otherwise have access to them.
Like many others, I was fortunate enough to have been able to get my first guitar as a teenager. I'm so grateful for that and for the way it has shaped my life. I'd just love the opportunity to share that wonderful experience with other young people who aren't in the same position. I promise that all of the income I generate through selling these tracks over the next year will go towards buying musical instruments and then distributing these through schools, community and youth groups, charities and other projects working with those young people who might benefit from being given an instrument.
Long term, I hope to set up another youth music project and am in the dreaming stages of imagining some future work. For now, this feels like a good way that I can encourage and support young people through music.
You can listen to 'Heartbeat' and 'Dreams' for free at www.lauracharms.bandcamp.com
and if you'd like to support my fundraising, you can also buy and download the tracks from this page. I'll keep my website (www.lauracharms.com
) and Facebook profile and page updated on how this all goes.
'Heartbeat' is a song I wrote for my wonderful husband when we first got together. Lyndon also added some vocals onto the final recording :) We both really feel that we'd like it to be used in a way that benefits others.
When it came to recording 'Dreams' I was lucky enough to have a very special and talented friend, James Lane add lead guitar and vocals to the track. James is an amazing musician who you should all watch out for! We also worked together for a youth music project for many years and share the same passion for encouraging young people through music.
I'd love to hear from anyone with suggestions of groups or projects working with young people who might be struggling to get their own instrument.
